I went to Charleroi High School way back when. From early on my ideal role model was Leonardo who was at the forefront of both Science and Art. I went to Penn State with the vague idea of becoming an engineer…but because I picked Architectural Engineering I found myself more drawn to the artistic element in that curriculum. I railed against what I perceived as the “business world” aspect even of the “purer” Architecture.
After I graduated from PSU with a degree in Art (with three years in the Army squeezed in there), I fell into staying in what was “supposed” to be a summer job before Grad school: fifteen years in a steel mill that closed and then twenty plus years in the Postal Service resulted. Though I never showed, I pursued my arts “on the side.”
Now that I’ve retired and “every day is Sunday,” I’ve found myself cranking out artwork at a feverish pace. Because I’m virtually totally unseen, I can’t do anything now but “explode” onto the scene.
Because of my wealth of ideas I work in a small format (about 4000 drawings in the last three years), but even though they’re small, they are very dense and as they say on Farm Film Report on SCTV, they “blow up REAL good.” I somehow want to get them ALL out there (and available to everyone) because there is a serial aspect to them.
I sort of hesitate to show something “representative” of my work because of my iceberg nature. Currently I’m fascinated by “accidents” and the concept of Pareidolia(wiki it!). It’s manifesting itself as a sort of augmented Rorschach test. Simply put, I’m a visionary.
I’m looking forward to my affiliation with Jozart allowing me to make connections and get my foot back into the art world.
